Rating: 4.5 out of 5.Synopsis: Demi is a werewolf who has banished from Wolf City. Well, her parents were banished before she was born, so she has grown up outside of Wolf City amidst humans and other ragtag magical creatures like vampires, feys, trolls, and witches. In addition to being banished, her family has been shackled as part of their punishment. This means that they cannot transform into werewolves. If they try, they get electrocuted. But Demi can’t control herself, or her inner wolf, so she gets electrocuted. Alot. On a particularly infuriating day, she flees her class for outside in an attempt to maintain control and bumps into an extremely hot wolf, who also happens to be the alphas son. It turns out it’s his mating year, and the law says all eligible females are to be in Wolf City at the Wolf College for potential selection as his mate. As a result, Demi finds herself suddenly shipped off to Wolf City, unshackled and competing for the next Alpha’s heart.
Honestly I’m shocked I’m giving this book such a high rating. I didn’t have high expectation based on the cover art. Wait what’s that saying, don’t judge a book by its cover? Well that’s true here. The writing wasn’t amazing, but it wasn’t distracting, and the author made me laugh. The book has a definite YA vibe, even though the characters are in their early twenties. It reads and feels more like they’re teenagers. All of the characters seem somewhat immature, including Demi and the alpha hero Sawyer. But I really enjoyed the read nonetheless. The plot is interesting and original and I love that Demi is unique but not in the typical a random girl turns out to be special chosen one kind of way like every other YA paranormal romance. But lord the ending. THE ENDING. I’ll let you know now it ends on a cliffhanger. Why do authors do this???? Whyyyyyyy. I can’t wait to start the next book. Do yourself a favor and pick this one up.
